AMC Planning THE WALKING DEAD Spinoff Series

Personally, I'm hoping for The Walking Dead: Miami, if only for the pre-opening credit sequences of Zombie David Caruso dryly making puns just before The Who's Roger Daltrey unleashes his "Won't Get Fooled Again" scream.

Entertainment Weekly announced today that AMC is developing a second series based on their hit adaptation of The Walking Dead for 2015.  Walking Dead co-creator Robert Kirkman and his fellow executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert will work on the spinoff series.

"After ten years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe," said Kirkman. "The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing."

Charlie Collier, AMC’s president and general manager, remarked, "Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18 to 49 is literally a no-brainer.  We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters.  It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse."

The article also notes that there's no word if any of the existing Walking Dead characters or events will feature in the new series, so don't get your hopes up for that Daryl Dixon: The Walking Asskicker series just yet.

Season 4 of The Walking Dead begins on October 13 on AMC.
